What you should know about Australian Aboriginal Artwork

Children in Mundaring, Houses in Mundaring, Art in Mundaring, Gift in Mundaring

Renowned Western Australian aboriginal artist Sheila Humphries is an Aboriginal Nyoongar woman from the Yuat tribe. Alternatively, if you like one of the current gallery works but would like it on a larger scale please email Sheila for a quote. Sheila also accepts commissioned work and will produce an artwork to your requirements and budget. CURRENT ARTWORKS & COMMISSIONS If you would like to view Sheila Humphries' current works, please visit the Australian Aboriginal Artwork gallery page. Sheila Humphries' paintings reflect reconciliation, faith and healing. Sheila experiences immense healing from her artwork and she believes that art, just like her faith in religion, is about understanding the past to find a way forward. Guests on Urban tours are invited to spend a morning with Sheila Humphries where she reveals how the love and support of her husband Bill and her 8 children set her on a path of healing and recovery as she re-educated herself and discovered a natural artistic gift through her aboriginal artworks. Through her involvement with Urban Indigenous Tours, run by Spirit of Australia award recipient Rebecca Casey, Sheila has been able to showcase her artwork and share her personal journey as a woman who has dealt with separation, grief and displacement as part of the Stolen Generation. TEACHING & RECONCILIATION | CORPORATE, school groups, TOURS Sheila Humphries is involved in teaching indigenous art and aboriginal culture to international tourists, SCHOOL, and corporate bodies both at her house in South Guildford and at the Indigenous Art Shop Gallery in Midvale Western Australia. Each painting shows the special places, animals and plants of each Yuat season, and one painting includes a rosary. Sheila is well known for her large paintings of the six Yuat Aboriginal seasons which are on permanent display at the Benedictine Monastery town of New Norcia in Western Australia. Viewed and photographed from space in 2007 as part of the National Australia Day Council's Look Up and Smile project, the large scale artwork is entitled PEACE and is recognised by the Guiness Book of Records as the largest sand painting in the world. A personal highlight for Sheila was presenting one of her paintings to the late Pope John Paul II. ABORIGINAL LARGE-SCALE ARTWORK Sheila Humphries has been involved in large scale artworks - such as the famous 10,000 square metre sand painting recreated from an image by Sheila in collaboration with aboriginal artists Fatima Drayton and Deborah Nannup. ABORIGINAL ARTWORK | CORPORATE & PRIVATE COMMISSIONS Sheila is a respected artist who is regularly commissioned to produce indigenous artwork for corporate and private clients and she has artworks hanging on permanent display in corporate chambers, renowned galleries, and private residences both nationally and internationally.
