Hills yoga is a great place to learn and practice yoga. I am passionate about sharing the peace, calm, self-understanding, vitality and wellbeing which comes with attending yoga classes that can potentially transform your life.

Hills Yoga classes have been running for 19 years. Classes are adapted to the individuals that come to class, so there is wide range of poses and activities that can be modified to suit from beginner to advance student. Pregnant women are welcome to attend the general classes. I did yoga through both my pregnancies and found it highly beneficial.

The classes provide a supportive environment to practice the yoga postures asana, practice visualisation and meditation techniques. The individual needs of the students are considered with props and the necessary equipment available.

About MeI originally came to yoga to fix a very painful back condition. I found that the yoga not only fixed my back but gave me a greater sense of enjoyment and peacefulness. I have enjoyed teaching my community the joys of yoga and sharing the sense of well being that a yoga practice can instil.More about HelenHelen trained in Mosman Park with Sam Weinstein at the Home of Yoga centre. Sam has been her teacher for 24 years and trained directly under Iyengar in India. Helen trained as a teacher in the this style of yoga a hatha based alignment –focused practice combing breath, meditation, philosophy and asana. She has been teaching regularly in the hills Perth for 15 years, workshops/retreats in Bali (Indonesia), local festivals and events. She is also registered teacher with Yoga Australia.Helen often attends sound healings, women circles, spiritual advancement groups, yoga festival, retreats both in Perth and Bali plus maintains a daily yoga and meditation practice.She has practiced many styles of yoga over the many years of practice – including Iyengar, ashtanga, bikram, yin, kundalini, synergy, calligraphy, flow, power, pregnancy and restorative. My classes utilise the range of style and my favourite is always the one I am practicing right now.A self-confessed spiritual seeker from a young age enjoys working as a facilitator to support other is their journeys through all stages of life.

QUALIFICATION DETAILS

I have been teaching for 19 years with 28 years of personal practice. I completed the 5 year teacher training with the Transformational Yoga Institutes from 1996 to 2001 (Home of Yoga).

  • My teacher trained under several respected Senior Yoga Teachers in India in the 80’s and I honour them by teaching in styles influenced by these teachers.
  • Basic pregnancy yoga training.
  • 20 year training which include training through two pregnancies.

FAQ’s Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s).
What do I do for my first class? There is no need to book. For your first class, come 10 minutes prior to class starting to fill out the registration form and so we can have a chat.

What should I wear? Wear clothes that are comfortable, but not too baggy, it can be quite annoying having your t-shirt (or jewellery) hanging over your head.

Should I bring anything? Mats are provided, but if you have your own you’re more than welcome to use your own mat. Bring an extra blanket if you are inclined to get cold.

Can I eat before class? As yoga works not only on flexibility, strength, etc it is also busy working on the inside. It is recommended that you don’t eat any substantial meals 2-3 hours prior to class

I’m pregnant, can I come to class? Yes, we have women of all stages coming to class. Postures are modified to suit.

Do I need to be flexible to do yoga? One of the most common misconceptions is that you need to be flexible to do yoga. If practiced regularly, yoga will help your flexibility. It is important to listen to your body and work at your own level. Over stretching usually occurs when we don’t do this and our ego gets involved; making us stretch further.

Why do I feel dizzy during class? Sometimes we feel dizzy when we don’t breath properly or we don’t drink enough water. In certain poses we can have a tendency to hold our breath, which will make us feel light headed. Eating too much before class or not having eaten for a long time and having low blood sugar can also do this. Pace your practice and remind yourself to breath deeply through the class.
